Pet food producer cuts costs with Citizen CL-S700 label printer

The Citizen CL-S700 has provided the ideal solution for a pet food manufacturer’s labelling needs by cutting the cost of printing and providing increased flexibility.

Honey’s Real Dog Food Ltd is a traditional, family-run, old-fashioned, ethical business, with its kitchens based in the depths of rural Wiltshire.  The company sources most of its ingredients from small, local suppliers and prepares all its pet food to order.  Armed with the information provided by its customer feedback, Honey’s adjust the ingredients and quantities on an on-going basis and so required a labelling solution that would allow flexibility yet be simple to operate.

With its manufacturing in-house, Honey’s was using a temporary manual batch control system using expensive pre-printed labels.  Newbury Data, one of Citizen’s value added distributors, introduced Honey’s to the benefits of using touch label solutions that would provide on-demand labelling in a simple form to suit a workforce with varying levels of IT skills.  The solution included an AdvanPOS wall-mounted touch screen PC and associated software, and a Citizen CL-S700 label printer incorporating a label rewinder.

The CL-S700 printer proved to be an excellent printer for this application, with the capability to produce high volumes of labels quickly, simply and cost effectively at printing speeds up to 10 ipsand print quality resolution of 203 or 300 dpi.  With all of the standard operations accessible from the front of the printer, the CL-S700 has been designed for easy front loading of media and simple maintenance operation.  For example, the internal rewinder allows rolls of labels to be printed and fed back into the printer without peeling, making it simple and fast to produce rolls of pre-printed labels for later use.  Meanwhile, the active ribbon control and position mechanism ensures ribbon wrinkle and media slippage are eliminated.

The Citizen solution and associated equipment supplied by Newbury Data provided Honey’s with an extremely cost-effective and simple-to-use solution, backed by the excellent technical knowledge and support that is a trademark of Citizen’s network of distributors.

“Since introducing the new solution we have reduced label costs,” says Vicky Marshall, Managing Director, Honey’s Real Dog Food Ltd.  “We are now producing high quality labels that are fully compliant with Trading Standards requirements. And we have a happy production team.”
